Poker players are just like you and me
Because poker is such a good model of the real world ? every author worth his salt who’s ever mused about poker has gone to great length to point out that the lessons of poker are the lessons of life ? poker players are as varied as you might expect. While you might have a mind’s eye view of poker players as guys bedecked enough gold chain jewelry to turn an NBA basketball player green with envy, there’s more to it than gold chains, sunglasses, and the ability to interlace chips with nonchalance and attitude simultaneously. Poker players are everyone. They’re guys who stop off at the cardroom on the way home from work, students, soccer moms, actors and musicians, and people from almost every slice of life you can think of. Online poker players are even more varied, because online poker does not require the same time commitment that live, brick-and-mortar play does. A stay-at-home mom with young kids can’t just hop into her car, drive to a casino, and play poker for hours at end. Neither can many working folks. And some people might not live near enough to a poker room even if they have plenty of free time. After all, those folks who live in an area where it is a two or three hour drive to the nearest casino ? or longer ? are probably going to be online poker players the majority of the time, if they’re going to play at all.
